Freelance Infrastructure Finance Reporter (APAC Focus)

Location: Remote, based in Sydney, Australia; travel across Australia and APAC required for key industry events.

What you will do

• Produce exclusive articles and analysis on infrastructure finance transactions and investment trends across Australia and APAC.
• Break news on project finance deals, M&A processes, debt and equity fundraising, and secondary market activity ahead of public announcements.
• Build and maintain sources among project developers, infrastructure and pension funds, banks, private credit investors, government stakeholders, policymakers, and legal and financial advisors.
• Interview senior decision-makers, including C-suite executives, fund managers, and originators.
• Cover power generation, energy transition, transport, logistics, digital infrastructure, water, and social infrastructure.
• Provide timely, accurate, forward-looking reporting on policy shifts, regulatory developments, and market dynamics while collaborating with editors, analysts, and contributors.

Requirements

• Proven experience in financial journalism, ideally covering infrastructure finance, energy, or project finance markets.
• A strong track record of breaking exclusive stories and developing proprietary angles.
• An established network of sources across Australian and/or APAC infrastructure markets.
• Solid understanding of project finance and PPP structures, debt and equity capital markets, and the Australian infrastructure policy and regulatory environment.
• Excellent written and spoken English.
• Highly self-motivated, proactive, and persistent in sourcing stories.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and deliver accurate reporting under deadline pressure.
• Willingness to travel across Australia and APAC for key industry events.
