Scientist, Computational Biology (single-cell and perturbational genomics): Analyzing large-scale Perturb-seq, single-cell, multi-omic, and functional genomics datasets to identify gene, regulatory, and cellular mechanisms with an accent on mechanistic modeling and biological interpretation. Focus on guide assignment, perturbation-effect estimation, interaction modeling, microglial state transitions, and translating computational findings into testable experiments.
Location: Palo Alto, California, United States; minimum 3 days onsite per week
Base salary: $135,000–$186,500 per year, plus eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus

What you will do
- Analyze large-scale Perturb-seq, single-cell sequencing, multi-omic, and functional genomics datasets.
- Identify functional relationships between genes, regulatory programs, and cellular phenotypes.
- Apply guide assignment, perturbation-effect estimation, interaction modeling, or microglial trajectory and cell-state analysis, depending on the selected track.
- Collaborate with experimental scientists on study design, interpretation, validation, and testable biological hypotheses.
- Develop analysis notebooks, dashboards, software tools, benchmarks, and data resources for complex biological datasets.
- Present findings, contribute to preprints or open-source projects, and mentor colleagues and interns.
Requirements
- PhD in computational biology, bioinformatics, genomics, systems biology, machine learning, computer science, molecular biology, or a related field, plus 0–4 years of postdoctoral or professional research experience.
- Demonstrated experience deriving biological insight from large-scale single-cell, perturbational, or multi-omic datasets.
- Expertise in either Perturb-seq/CRISPR screen analysis at scale or single-cell analysis of microglia in neurodegeneration and Alzheimer's disease biology.
- Python proficiency and experience with modern scientific computing and data analysis ecosystems.
- Familiarity with reproducible workflows, version control, and high-performance or cloud computing.
- Ability to work at least 3 days onsite in the Palo Alto office.
Nice to have
- Background in cell identity, reprogramming, RNA biology, cell engineering, neurobiology, immunology, cancer biology, or complex disease genetics.
- Experience with dimensionality reduction and gene module analysis for single-cell biology.
- Experience in a startup, technology center, research institute, or highly collaborative environment.
