Scientist / Senior Scientist, Multimodal AI

Location: San Francisco Bay Area, CA; San Diego, CA

Salary: $179,400–$330,000 annually, depending on level and location.

What you will do

• Design, code, and train large-scale foundation models, including Vision Transformers and Multimodal LLMs.
• Build models that embed spatial data and integrate biomedical imaging, molecular, and language modalities.
• Implement cross-domain data-fusion strategies for heterogeneous biological datasets.
• Build and manage high-performance ML pipelines for petabyte-scale image repositories and multi-omics streams in cloud environments.
• Collaborate with experimental scientists and software engineers to develop scalable distributed systems and production-ready code.

Requirements

• PhD in Computer Science, AI/ML, Biomedical Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
• Deep hands-on experience with modern Computer Vision architectures, including Vision Transformers, U-Nets, and self-supervised learning.
• Experience training and fine-tuning large models at scale with PyTorch Distributed, DeepSpeed, or JAX.
• Expert-level Python skills and experience building production-ready ML code and large-scale data management systems.
• Technical contributions demonstrated through high-impact publications or significant open-source ML framework work.

Nice to have

• Experience with multimodal fusion, such as aligning image embeddings with transcriptomic or proteomic data.
• Proficiency with AWS or GCP, Kubernetes, Docker, and automated MLOps workflows.
• Experience handling noise and sparsity in biological data.
