Member of Technical Staff, AI Research Scientist

Location: On-site in San Francisco, at the Dogpatch office

Salary: $210,000–$350,000 per year plus equity

What you will do

• Formulate challenges in building AI agents for science as statistical problems.
• Research post-training methods for LLMs on challenging scientific reasoning tasks.
• Research optimal sampling techniques, including efficient exploration and quality-diversity.
• Own research projects end-to-end, from problem scoping with scientists to deployment with engineers.
• Develop and extend the experimentation platform for internal tools and projects.
• Collaborate with AI researchers, engineers, biologists, and chemists.

Requirements

• 5–10+ years of ML research experience on real-world problems, including reinforcement learning, representation learning, or Bayesian methods.
• Fluency in PyTorch, JAX, or an equivalent framework.
• Experience with large-scale training and experimentation technologies such as Ray, verl, or Megatron-LM.
• Experience with EDA, feature engineering, model development, deployment, and validation in production ML systems.
• Strong programming skills across data, ML, and LLM software stacks, plus familiarity with distributed systems.
• PhD in Machine Learning, Computer Science, or another quantitative field.
