Senior Perception Machine Learning Engineer (AI)

Location: Seattle, United States; hybrid. Strong onsite collaboration is expected at AIM offices, labs, and proving grounds in the Greater Seattle area, with travel to field sites around the world.

What you will do

• Design and advance perception algorithms for scene understanding, obstacle detection, terrain modeling, and machine awareness.
• Develop machine learning models for object detection, segmentation, depth estimation, and terrain understanding.
• Optimize perception models for real-time inference on edge compute platforms.
• Build scalable data pipelines for training, evaluation, and iterative model improvement using field data.
• Integrate perception outputs with planning, control, localization, SLAM, mapping, and safety systems.
• Collaborate with robotics, controls, systems, and software teams to deliver robust autonomous machine capabilities.

Requirements

• Experience building and deploying production machine learning systems on real hardware, ideally for autonomous vehicles.
• Strong understanding of machine learning fundamentals, optimization, training dynamics, evaluation metrics, and data imbalance.
• Experience with 2D and 3D computer vision, including classification, detection, segmentation, tracking, and depth sensing.
• Experience with sensor calibration for cameras, lidar, radar, or similar perception sensors.
• Excellent Python software development skills and proficiency in TensorFlow, PyTorch, and C++.
• Experience with localization, SLAM, edge deployment, and real-time perception pipelines.
