TL;DR
GNSS Navigation and Estimation Engineer (Aerospace): Designing and implementing real-time onboard orbit estimation and prediction for VLEO spacecraft with an accent on nonlinear filtering, GNSS measurement modeling, dynamic force modeling, and covariance integrity. Focus on building robust C/C++ flight software, reconstructing low-thrust maneuvers, and validating estimation performance through simulation, Monte Carlo, and hardware-in-the-loop testing.

Location: Onsite at the Broomfield, Colorado headquarters; applicants must be U.S. Persons and meet U.S. work authorization requirements. Relocation support is available.

Salary: $130,000–$155,000 per year

Company

hirify.global develops VLEO spacecraft buses, integrated satellites, and turnkey missions operating at approximately 250–400 km.

What you will do

  • Design and implement high-accuracy, real-time onboard orbit estimation using EKF or equivalent nonlinear filtering methods.
  • Develop dynamic process models covering gravity, atmospheric drag, solar radiation pressure, uncertainty propagation, and covariance realism.
  • Build short-term orbit prediction, smoothing, maneuver reconstruction, and thrust parameter estimation methods for low-thrust operations.
  • Analyze orbit–attitude–drag coupling and quantify prediction performance during high-drag and geomagnetic storm conditions.
  • Develop testable C/C++ flight software and ground validation infrastructure, including closed-loop simulation, measurement replay, Monte Carlo campaigns, and hardware-in-the-loop testing.
  • Support GNSS hardware integration, measurement and telemetry modeling, calibration analysis, and anomaly triage.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in aerospace, electrical, mechanical engineering, physics, or a related field.
  • Strong C/C++ skills for embedded flight software, numerical methods, floating-point stability, and deterministic behavior.
  • Python proficiency for analysis, simulation, and test automation.
  • Experience with nonlinear state estimation, numerical linear algebra, GNSS measurement modeling, and code/carrier-phase bias handling.
  • Knowledge of GEO, MEO, LEO, and VLEO orbital perturbations, covariance propagation, NEES/NIS consistency testing, and operational health monitoring.
  • Applicants must be U.S. Persons and be authorized to work in the United States or eligible to obtain the required U.S. authorizations.

Nice to have

  • Experience integrating GNSS receivers, antennas, and IMUs, including hardware-in-the-loop validation.
  • Experience with low-thrust or drag-modulated guidance and control.
  • Familiarity with RINEX, SP3, IONEX, differential code bias products, and correction ingestion pipelines.
  • Experience designing regression tests, Monte Carlo campaigns, and closed-loop simulation environments.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools with verification and traceability discipline.

Culture & Benefits

  • In-person collaboration at the Broomfield headquarters with a first-principles, high-urgency operating approach.
  • Equity compensation.
  • 4% direct 401(k) matching and health insurance with full employee coverage and 75% dependent coverage.
  • Parental leave, childcare coverage, flexible vacation and sick time from day one, and 12 company holidays.
  • $100 monthly wellness benefit and relocation support.
