GNC Orbit Controls Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: On-site in Burlingame, California, United States

Salary: $130,000–$175,000 per year, plus equity.

What you will do

• Develop open-loop and closed-loop controllers for altitude management, station-keeping, and end-of-life disposal.
• Implement and maintain onboard orbit propagators, perturbation models, and numerical integrators.
• Build orbit determination pipelines using extended Kalman filtering with GNSS.
• Design burns and long-arc trajectories while optimizing delta V and timelines under communications, power, thermal, and operational constraints.
• Coordinate burn pointing and wheel momentum strategies with ADCS and propulsion systems.
• Maintain MATLAB and C++ simulators, create Monte Carlo campaigns, run SIL and HIL tests, and perform post-maneuver reconstruction.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Control Systems, Applied Physics, or a related field.
• Experience with orbital mechanics, simulation, onboard propagators, perturbation models, and numerical integrators on flight targets.
• GNC software experience in C++ and MATLAB for analysis, modeling, and test-vector generation.
• Experience supporting real maneuvers and reconciling mission plans with post-burn truth and estimation.
• Familiarity with electric propulsion, thrust modeling and calibration, long-burn guidance, duty-cycle planning, and thermal constraints.

Nice to have

• Expertise in trajectory design and optimization.
• Familiarity with CCSDS ephemeris and attitude formats.
