TL;DR
Engineer IV, Safety Analysis & V&V (Nuclear Safety Analysis): Performing thermo-hydraulic safety analyses for Xe-100 nuclear reactor licensing and design with an accent on accident analysis, safety limits, scaling studies, and code verification and validation. Focus on developing PIRTs, supporting probabilistic risk assessment, documenting NRC regulatory submittals, and leading complex safety evaluations for TRISO fuel and high-temperature gas-cooled reactor technology.

Location: Rockville, Maryland; four days onsite per week at the Gaithersburg, Maryland office. Working hours are 8:00am–5:00pm, Monday–Friday, with approximately 10% travel.

Salary: $160,000–$185,000 per year.

What you will do

  • Perform thermo-hydraulic transient and accident analyses for AOOs, DBEs, DBAs, and BDBEs using approved system codes and methodologies.
  • Evaluate core heat removal, coolant flow, heat transfer, temperature distributions, cooling capability, safety margins, and acceptance criteria.
  • Develop PIRTs and scaling analyses to establish the technical basis for Xe-100 code applicability and experimental data use.
  • Support SSC safety classification, deterministic inputs to PRA, design requirements, and integration with neutronics, structural, materials, and reactor systems engineering.
  • Prepare technical documentation for regulatory submittals, including topical reports, safety analysis reports, code applicability reports, and responses to NRC requests for additional information.
  • Review analysis work products and software qualification activities, lead small analyst teams, and provide technical guidance and mentorship.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in nuclear, chemical, mechanical, or related engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Typically 10 years of engineering experience, with specialized knowledge in safety analysis.
  • Previous experience performing verification and validation or commercial-grade dedication activities.
  • Experience applying NRC Regulatory Guide 1.203, design-specific interim staff guidance, system analysis codes, and thermo-hydraulic safety methodologies.
  • Ability to work onsite four days per week in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
  • Ability to produce safety-related calculations and analyses in accordance with NQA-1 quality assurance requirements.
