TL;DR
Mechanical Project Engineer (Aerospace): Designing and developing structural and mechanical subsystems for the first commercial space station with an accent on project governance, lifecycle delivery, and structural integrity verification. Focus on leading multidisciplinary teams through design, prototyping, procurement, testing, certification, and anomaly resolution while meeting NASA, FAA, and quality requirements.

Location: Onsite in Houston, United States, at the Space Systems Development Facility

What you will do

  • Define and manage project scope, budgets, resources, work breakdown structures, and product requirements.
  • Lead structural and mechanical product development from requirements and design through prototyping, procurement, verification, production, delivery, and obsolescence.
  • Manage subcontractors, negotiate vendor contracts, monitor performance, and verify deliverables for complex structural subsystems.
  • Lead trade studies, review engineering drawings and technical reports, and resolve cross-cutting engineering issues and anomalies.
  • Plan build, integration, and test flows while managing project risks and multidisciplinary task execution.
  • Present technical compliance, project status, and milestone progress to executive leadership and external clients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field with 10+ years of experience leading engineering projects.
  • Deep understanding of structural integrity verification and mechanical system integration.
  • Experience with SOLIDWORKS or a similar computer-aided design tool, plus project management software such as Microsoft Project or Primavera P6.
  • Ability to work in ambiguous, fast-moving environments, meet tight deadlines, and collaborate across functions.
  • Access to export-controlled technical data may require additional U.S. export control screening under NASA regulations, ITAR, or EAR; meeting the requirements is a condition of employment.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends when required to meet critical project milestones.

Nice to have

  • Spaceflight hardware design and development experience.
  • Experience with NASA requirements, contractual agreements, and spaceflight hardware certification.
  • Experience with PDM software, including SolidWorks PDM, and the Atlassian suite.
