Software Engineering Manager

Location: Auckland, New Zealand; office-first, with working from the office every day as the default

What you will do

• Lead a team of frontend and backend engineers, supporting growth through mentoring, feedback, performance conversations, and hiring.
• Own the technical direction and delivery of reliable, maintainable, and impactful team work.
• Stay close to services, data, and system design while shaping technical bets and engineering-led initiatives.
• Work with product and design to clarify ambiguous requirements and shape what gets built for farmers and ranchers.
• Use AI tools to accelerate development and explore new ways of working.
• Develop practical domain knowledge by getting out on farms and contribute to broader engineering practices.

Requirements

• Direct experience leading engineers, including mentoring, hiring, and performance management.
• Product engineering mindset with a focus on user impact, UX, performance, and product quality.
• Ability to structure ambiguous work, balance speed with quality, and maintain a strong technical perspective.
• Calm, low-ego leadership style with the ability to guide teams through complex work.
• Experience in fast-moving startups, growth environments, and ambiguous problem spaces.

Nice to have

• Experience with hardware or real-world systems.
• Experience with mobile development or React Native.
• Experience building products for demanding physical environments.
