Staff Site Reliability Engineer (VMware)

Location: New York, New York, United States. Hybrid work model; candidates within commuting distance of a hirify.global office are expected to work onsite at least 50% of the time.

Salary: $131,000–$164,000 USD per year.

What you will do

• Lead the architecture, deployment, and optimization of VMware vSphere-based private cloud infrastructure across global datacenters.
• Build large-scale provisioning, configuration, and compliance automation with PowerShell/PowerCLI, Ansible, Python, and CI/CD tools.
• Administer, harden, and troubleshoot Linux and Windows Server environments hosting enterprise and SaaS workloads.
• Manage hybrid Active Directory environments, including authentication, access control, Group Policy, DNS, and service accounts.
• Partner with network and security teams on firewalls, VPNs, storage, and F5 BIG-IP or AVI/NSX Advanced Load Balancer platforms.
• Document architectures and runbooks, participate in on-call and change management, lead complex incidents, and mentor engineers.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in systems or infrastructure engineering within large-scale enterprise or SaaS datacenter environments.
• Deep production expertise with VMware vSphere, including ESXi, vCenter, DRS, HA, vMotion, and distributed switches.
• Strong Linux administration skills across RHEL, CentOS, and Ubuntu, including performance tuning, hardening, and advanced troubleshooting.
• Solid Windows Server and Active Directory experience, including Group Policy, DNS, authentication, and access integrations.
• Experience building automation with PowerShell/PowerCLI, Ansible, Python, or similar tools, plus Git or other version control.
• Hybrid role based in New York, United States, with at least 50% onsite attendance for candidates near a hirify.global office.

Nice to have

• Experience with Pure Storage, Cisco UCS, or similar enterprise storage and compute platforms.
• Familiarity with Terraform, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or comparable infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD tools.
• Exposure to CIS benchmarks, NIST, ISO 27001, or other security hardening and compliance frameworks.
