Flight Analysis Intern (Software) (Aerospace/Python/C++): Developing flight analysis methods, simulation tools, and technical documentation for Electron mission operations and Neutron development with an accent on trajectory analysis, flight safety, reliability, and mission risk. Location: Auckland, New Zealand. This position is for candidates seeking to work in New Zealand offices and requires eligibility to access equipment and data regulated by U.S. ITAR.

What you will do
- Develop and maintain flight analysis methods, assumptions, software tools, and models for launch vehicle trajectories, performance, debris, re-entry, failure effects, reliability, and mission risk.
- Build and execute 3 DoF and 6 DoF simulations, statistical failure-probability models, and efficient parallel-computing solutions.
- Process and analyse large datasets using Python and C++.
- Prepare launch operational deliverables, flight safety data packages, safety documentation, licensing documentation, and standard operating procedures.
- Support range operations and collaborate with engineers, internal departments, external agencies, compliance teams, and regulators.
- Document analysis methods, assumptions, and results and contribute to team meetings and technical improvements.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, or an equivalent field, currently pursuing or recently completed, with focus on numerical modelling and simulation, statistics, multiphysics, or a related area.
- Strong programming skills in Python and C++.
- Familiarity with configuration management and version control.
- Strong technical writing, communication, interpersonal, and independent-working skills.
- Passion for aerospace, space technology, and innovation.
- For New Zealand office roles, nationality and background checks apply; eligibility to access ITAR-regulated equipment and data is required. Eligible citizenship may include Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Switzerland, European Union, or NATO countries, subject to applicable restrictions.
Nice to have
- Advanced degree in engineering, science, or an equivalent field.
- Experience preparing flight safety data packages, compliance matrices, analysis reports, or FMECA documentation.
- Experience with launch vehicle flight safety programs or previous flight analysis or aerospace engineering projects.
- Familiarity with LaTeX.
