AI Engineer

Location: Hybrid in San Francisco, United States; occasional travel for team meetings, offsites, or customer engagements.

Base salary: $140,000–$170,000 per year, plus equity and bonus eligibility.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain AI-driven features and pipelines serving enterprise customers at scale.
• Architect and implement agent-based workflows using LangChain, LangGraph, or equivalent orchestration frameworks.
• Own AI systems end to end, from experimentation through production deployment, monitoring, and iteration.
• Build evaluation pipelines and custom metrics to measure and improve AI system performance.
• Develop retrieval strategies combining RAG, graph-based retrieval, and other approaches across heterogeneous data.
• Integrate agents with external platforms and workflows, including human-in-the-loop checkpoints and escalation paths.

Requirements

• Strong software engineering skills with clean, testable, production-ready code.
• Hands-on experience with LangChain, LangGraph, or equivalent agent and orchestration frameworks.
• Ability to communicate technical decisions, progress, and architecture tradeoffs clearly.
• Strong ownership, autonomy, and ability to make pragmatic decisions in ambiguous and fast-changing environments.
• Availability and responsiveness suited to an early-stage startup environment.

Nice to have

• Experience building evaluation pipelines and systematic metrics for AI systems.
• Backend engineering experience with APIs, services, data infrastructure, or production systems.
• Experience with RAG, vector databases, or LLM-powered search and recommendation systems.
• Experience working at an early-stage startup or in a high-growth environment.
