Mid Backend Engineer

Location: Zagreb, Croatia; hybrid work model

What you will do

• Design, develop, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot backend services supporting platform and messaging capabilities.
• Build systems that process platform traffic and operational metrics in real time.
• Develop scalable distributed services focused on high throughput, low latency, reliability, and performance.
• Contribute to monitoring, alerting, service configuration, and internal platform tooling.
• Work with data-intensive applications and relational databases to expose operational insights.
• Own solutions end to end, including deployment, monitoring, production support, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of professional backend or full-stack software engineering experience.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals, including object-oriented programming and concurrent or parallel systems.
• Experience building and maintaining distributed backend systems in production.
• Experience with relational databases and data-intensive applications.
• Understanding of scalability, reliability, observability, and backend performance optimization.
• Fluent English, spoken and written, is required.

Nice to have

• Production experience with Java or another backend programming language.
• Experience with monitoring, observability, or alerting systems.
• Familiarity with messaging, streaming, caching, or event-driven architectures.
• Experience with high-throughput or low-latency systems.
• Exposure to infrastructure, platform engineering, or internal tooling.
