Machine Learning Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid in San Francisco, California; R&D roles require two days per week in the San Francisco office.

What you will do

• Design, build, and deploy production-grade machine learning models and intelligent services.
• Develop scalable pipelines for model training, evaluation, monitoring, inference, and retraining.
• Build solutions using NLP, LLMs, classification, recommendation, and prediction techniques.
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and data teams to translate customer problems into ML solutions.
• Improve model performance through experimentation, feature engineering, and evaluation.
• Optimize model latency, scalability, infrastructure costs, and production observability.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering or machine learning engineering experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong programming experience in Python and experience deploying ML models into production.
• Knowledge of supervised and unsupervised learning, structured and unstructured data, feature engineering, and model evaluation.
• Experience with ML infrastructure, SQL data pipelines, cloud platforms, Docker, Kubernetes, testing, version control, and CI/CD.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical teams.

Nice to have

• Experience with LLMs, retrieval-augmented generation, embeddings, agentic AI, fine-tuning, or prompt engineering.
• Experience with vector databases, semantic search, or tools such as MLflow, Weights & Biases, Airflow, Kubeflow, or SageMaker.
• Healthcare, pharmacy, health tech, startup, or fast-paced environment experience.
