Optical Design Engineer (Photonics)

Location: On-site in Singapore or San Jose

Building photonics infrastructure for AI supercomputing, including chip-to-chip optical interconnects and scalable photonic engines.

What you will do

• Design and verify lens- and fiber-based coupling solutions for silicon photonics electro-optical components.
• Use raytracing tools such as Zemax or CodeV for sequential, non-sequential, tolerancing, Monte Carlo, and ZOS-API work.
• Design and conduct experiments for evaluating optical coupling performance.
• Consult with suppliers on optics concepts and solutions for optical transceivers.
• Provide technical support to mechanical designers and process engineers to optimize performance under manufacturing conditions.
• Collaborate with international, cross-functional engineering teams and travel approximately 20% of the time.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in optical engineering, engineering, physics, optics, or a related technical field; a Ph.D. is preferred.
• At least 2 years of direct optical systems design experience.
• Expertise with raytracing software such as Zemax or CodeV.
• Proficiency in MATLAB or Python.
• Hands-on laboratory experience with optical testing and setup design.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, organizational, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with JMP.
• Knowledge of process and quality control and optical communication standards such as IEEE and MSA.
• Prior exposure to photonics, telecom, or high-speed networking systems.
