Senior Frontend Engineer (Video)

What you will do

• Integrate Canva’s next-generation native video engine into the web.
• Design and evolve the core architecture for scalable web video playback.
• Build performance-critical systems beyond typical frontend abstractions.
• Deliver resilient rendering and playback across browsers and devices.
• Partner with product, editor, and platform teams to provide playback as a shared platform capability.
• Improve playback quality, observability, and reliability for millions of users.

Requirements

• Deep systems-level expertise in JavaScript beyond typical framework usage.
• Experience building video, audio, graphics, or game-like systems in the browser.
• Understanding of rendering pipelines, frame timing, animation systems, or compositor-style architectures.
• Ability to own ambiguous problem spaces and deliver end-to-end technical outcomes.
• Strong focus on performance, reliability, and scalable browser architectures.

Nice to have

• Experience with canvas, workers, WebGL, WebAssembly, or modern multimedia APIs.
• Experience with C++ and worker-based or multithreaded browser architectures.
• Experience with video composition or playback engines.
• Experience with low-level performance instrumentation or quality-of-experience metrics.
