What you will do

• Write features, lists, rankings, retrospectives, recommendations, and opinion pieces about classic and contemporary comic strips.
• Cover major strips, creators, memorable characters, running gags, storylines, controversies, and milestones.
• Research the history and cultural impact of comic strips and cartoonists.
• Monitor anniversaries, creator news, reissues, collections, adaptations, and online conversations for timely story ideas.
• Pitch and develop articles for comic-strip fans and Polygon’s broader audience while working with editors.
• Write and publish accurate content on deadline while following editorial, formatting, SEO, and audience-engagement guidelines.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of experience in digital journalism, online publishing, entertainment, comics, culture writing, or a comparable environment.
• Deep knowledge of comic strips, newspaper comics, and their creators, including Calvin and Hobbes, Peanuts, The Far Side, Garfield, and other major properties.
• Strong research skills and the ability to write authoritatively about familiar and lesser-known aspects of comic-strip history.
• Ability to identify compelling article angles and independently produce clean, engaging content on deadline.
• Strong understanding of headlines, rankings, hooks, and topics that resonate with readers.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with SEO and CMS tools.
