Backend/ML Engineer (AI)

What you will do

• Build and iterate on backend REST APIs and data pipelines for AI/ML proof-of-concept projects.
• Integrate third-party AI services and models, including LLMs, embedding models, vision, and speech technologies.
• Set up evaluations across AI providers and models, collect results, and summarize findings.
• Work with stakeholders to clarify goals, identify requirement gaps, and contribute to early product discussions.
• Document technical findings, decisions, progress, and blockers for broader team visibility.
• Manage multiple concurrent workstreams and define practical paths forward in ambiguous environments.

Requirements

• 3–7 years of software engineering experience.
• Experience building and deploying REST APIs with FastAPI, Flask, or similar technologies.
• Familiarity with LLM APIs such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, or similar services.
• Working knowledge of SQL and at least one non-relational data store.
• Ability to work from loosely defined requirements and communicate technical findings to non-engineering audiences.
• Self-directed approach with proactive blocker and status communication.

Nice to have

• Experience evaluating ML models or comparing outputs across AI providers.
• Familiarity with embedding-based search, recommendation, or personalization.
• Experience writing technical specifications or findings for team handoff.
• Exposure to data ingestion from third-party APIs.
• End-to-end experience shipping an independent project, open-source contribution, or similar work.
