Software Engineer II- Data Platform

Location: Hybrid in San Diego or San Mateo, United States

Salary: $150,100–$225,100 USD base pay per year; bonus eligibility may apply

What you will do

• Develop, test, deploy, and document code across the large-scale data platform.
• Support data cataloging, analytics, and ETL/ELT pipeline capabilities.
• Build and maintain services handling structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data, including audio, video, text, and images.
• Identify performance bottlenecks and implement platform improvements with guidance from senior engineers.
• Participate in production on-call rotations, troubleshoot critical issues, and maintain monitoring and observability.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Product, and global teams across multiple time zones.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.
• 3+ years of experience developing scalable, distributed systems.
• Proficiency in at least one of Scala, Java, or Python.
• Experience with cloud-based applications or services; AWS is preferred.
• Exposure to event streaming and data ingestion platforms such as Kafka, Kinesis, or SQS.
• Familiarity with distributed data processing frameworks such as Apache Spark or Apache Flink, plus CI/CD, monitoring, and observability practices.

Nice to have

• Experience with Databricks or similar unified data platforms.
• Experience with unstructured data formats such as images, video, or audio.
• Familiarity with data cataloging, lineage, and metadata tools.
• Knowledge of GCP or multi-cloud environments.
• Experience supporting platform-scale ETL frameworks, analytics services, or data quality checks.
