Software Engineering Manager, Network Security

Location: San Francisco, CA or New York City, NY; staff are expected to work from one of the offices at least 25% of the time.

What you will do

• Set the network security team charter, roadmap, engineering practices, and priorities.
• Design and deliver secure-by-default ingress and egress controls, network segmentation, private connectivity, and mTLS or service identity across cloud and data center environments.
• Partner with infrastructure networking, cluster, and data center teams to embed security requirements into topology, routing, firewall, and connectivity decisions.
• Build visibility into traffic and boundary drift, including detection of exfiltration paths and safe automated remediation.
• Own evidence that network security invariants and compliance goals are maintained.
• Hire, develop, and retain senior and staff security software engineers while supporting their career growth.

Requirements

• 8+ years of frontline management experience.
• Experience managing infrastructure or security engineering teams and developing senior and staff engineers.
• End-to-end ownership of a security or infrastructure domain, including multi-year strategy and cross-organizational delivery.
• Hands-on network security engineering experience in cloud or on-premises environments, including VPCs, interconnects, private service connectivity, cloud firewall policy, egress control, physical segmentation, and management-plane security.
• Experience with threat modeling, risk assessment, and securing Kubernetes networking at scale or operating in high-assurance environments where controls must be evidenced.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education, training, or experience in a relevant field.

Nice to have

• Experience with distributed training networks, infrastructure from zero to production maturity, and end-to-end networking with internal users, cloud account teams, or hardware and colocation vendors.
• Experience building hiring loops and scaling teams quickly.
• Familiarity with AI security and safety concepts.
• Clear and persuasive written and verbal communication.
