Engineering Standards, Lead (Java/Kotlin)

Location: Toronto, Canada; flexible hybrid work model

Salary: CAD 145,000–160,000 annually, plus eligibility for a short-term incentive plan

What you will do

• Define, document, and enforce Java and Kotlin coding standards, design patterns, and architectural guidelines for backend microservices.
• Maintain engineering standards documentation and integrate quality controls into CI/CD pipelines using SonarQube, GitHub Advanced Security, linting, GitHub Actions, Maven, Gradle, and Jenkins.
• Lead code quality, security, and compliance initiatives by defining KPIs, conducting compliance scans, reporting findings, and driving remediation.
• Evaluate shared Java libraries, build tools, frameworks, and backend platform practices to improve consistency, reliability, and developer productivity.
• Advise on API design, service contracts, system integration, cloud-native architecture, and modernization initiatives.
• Define responsible AI-assisted engineering practices, mentor backend engineers, facilitate working groups, and communicate recommendations to senior stakeholders.

Requirements

• 6+ years of software engineering experience with strong hands-on coding and technical delivery ownership.
• Deep knowledge of Git workflows, CI/CD, testing strategy, secure coding, and code quality practices.
• Experience implementing standards through templates, automation, and reusable tooling.
• Experience with GitHub, GitHub Actions, SonarQube, SAST/DAST, and policy-as-code.
• Ability to translate governance and risk requirements into practical engineering standards.
• Strong communication, mentoring, architecture review, and cross-team collaboration skills.
