Senior Backend Engineer (PHP/Python)

Location: Bulgaria, Poland, or Romania. Work from the European Union region and a work permit are required.

What you will do

• Develop and maintain business-critical platforms supporting commercial and financial operations.
• Build and enhance backend solutions using PHP and Python with Symfony.
• Develop REST APIs and integrations with external data sources.
• Design and maintain data import, transformation, and processing pipelines using PostgreSQL and SQL.
• Contribute to the Data Collection Platform, including API integrations and web scraping.
• Collaborate with Commercial, Finance, Product, and Engineering stakeholders in an Agile environment with two-week sprints and quarterly planning.

Requirements

• Strong commercial backend development experience with PHP and Python.
• Very good practical knowledge of Symfony, PostgreSQL, SQL, REST APIs, and system integrations.
• Experience with data imports, transformations, processing pipelines, software architecture, and backend design principles.
• Familiarity with Git and modern software development practices.
• Practical experience using AI-powered assistants such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or Cursor.
• Good command of English, work authorization in the European Union region, and a valid work permit.

Nice to have

• Experience with Apache Airflow, Snowflake, AWS, web scraping, business intelligence, or data analytics environments.
• Basic frontend development skills with JavaScript, jQuery, Bootstrap, HTML, and CSS.
• Experience applying GenAI workflows, prompt patterns, or tool integrations within the software development lifecycle.
• Interest in agent-based workflows, automation patterns, and AI-augmented development.
