Biologics Formulation Research Internship (Biologics)

Location: Full-time, on-site in El Segundo, California, United States. Spring internships run between January and May, depending on the selected student's university schedule.

Hourly rate: $33.00. Housing stipend is available for interns relocating to the area, with a commuter benefit for local transportation.

What you will do

• Perform biophysical characterization of protein candidates to assess structure, stability, purity, charge variants, and interaction behavior.
• Design and execute binding and selection studies involving disordered protein stabilizers and microcrystalline pharmaceutical substrates.
• Evaluate stabilizer performance through lyophilization and reconstitution cycles, including protein integrity before and after freeze-drying stress.
• Use analytical methods including nanoDSF, SEC, DLS, CD, UV and fluorescence spectroscopy, SDS-PAGE, and cIEF.
• Prepare reagents, buffers, and samples, and maintain accurate laboratory and electronic records.
• Collaborate with formulation scientists on laboratory planning, team meetings, and progress updates.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in an accredited bachelor's or graduate degree program in biochemistry, biophysics, pharmaceutical sciences, chemical engineering, molecular biology, or a related field.
• Prior hands-on laboratory experience in an academic or industry setting.
• Knowledge of basic analytical techniques for protein characterization.
• Strong attention to detail, precise protocol execution, organization, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States and qualify as a U.S. person under applicable export-control requirements.

Nice to have

• Junior, senior, or graduate academic standing.
• Experience with DLS, nanoDSF, SEC, CD, capillary electrophoresis, protein formulation, biologics drug product development, or protein biochemistry.
• Familiarity with lyophilization, freeze-drying, tangential flow filtration, or related solid-state processing.
• Experience with GraphPad Prism, Python, MATLAB, or similar data analysis tools.
• GLP-compliant or structured R&D laboratory experience, or interest in space medicine and in-orbit manufacturing.
