Outside Plant Engineer (Fiber Optics)

Location: Elko, Nevada, United States; in-office five days a week.

Base salary: $80,000–$110,000 annually.

Global, Tier 1 facilities-based ISP providing high-speed Internet access and Ethernet transport services through an all-optical IP network backbone.

What you will do

• Manage network field activity and complex fiber engineering and construction projects across a typical 4–11 state area.
• Assess excavation and construction plans for conflicts with fiber cables, negotiate changes, and review vendor construction plans against network standards.
• Prepare outside plant work orders, cost estimates, scopes of work, specifications, and bid packages.
• Supervise contract engineering and construction personnel, coordinating safety, construction standards, operations support systems, Real Estate, Contracts, and other stakeholders.
• Maintain permanent as-built fiber route drawings, coordinate telecommunications entrances to buildings, and work with CPR, Drafting, and Access Management groups.
• Manage 3–5 projects per month costing $500,000–$5 million, lead major construction and relocation projects, locate cable, and respond to emergencies.

Requirements

• BS/BA degree, preferably in Civil Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 1–5 years of experience in outside plant engineering and construction, including 1–5 years directly managing construction or engineering projects.
• Working knowledge of network cable construction standards.
• Excellent interpersonal and negotiating skills.

Nice to have

• Project management experience.
• Basic knowledge of CAD systems, GIS, and GPS field survey tools.
• Experience maintaining a fiber network.
