Staff Engineer - PKI (Cybersecurity)

Location: Bethesda, Maryland, United States. Workplace flexibility is available, including the ability to work from anywhere in the US for up to four weeks per year.

Annual salary: $115,000–$230,000.

What you will do

• Lead technical strategy and execution for the IaaS Engineering domain.
• Design, build, improve, and operate high-performance, scalable, zero-downtime platforms and applications.
• Provide technical leadership across multiple areas and collaborate with product managers, customers, and engineering teams.
• Own solution quality, usability, performance, cost analysis, and operational outcomes.
• Mentor engineers, coach technical communities, share best practices, and influence technical and executive stakeholders.
• Participate in on-call and operational support.

Requirements

• Strong knowledge of PKI, certificate management, and Microsoft ADCS, including certificate templates, enrollment and issuance criteria, and certificate authority governance and operations.
• Strong software engineering foundations and professional experience with Go, Python, Java, or Rust.
• Hands-on experience designing complex systems, data pipelines, architectures, and performance-tuned solutions.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, and public or private cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Experience in security engineering, system and network security, authentication, security protocols, and cryptography.
• At least 6 years of professional IaaS experience, 4 years with open-source frameworks, 3 years with architecture and design, and 3 years with cloud services. A bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or equivalent experience is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with CI/CD tools such as Git, Jenkins, CircleCI, and SonarQube.
• Knowledge of Terraform, Grafana, and Prometheus.
• CISSP, CISM, or CISA certification.
