What you will do

• Design, build, and productionize ML models for search, discovery, ranking, retrieval-augmented generation, and generative AI features.
• Build and maintain scalable data pipelines and annotation systems for high-quality training and evaluation datasets.
• Collaborate with AI researchers and product engineers to improve model quality and deliver impactful AI features.
• Partner with infrastructure engineers to optimize systems for training, inference, monitoring, and deployment.
• Explore new AI ideas and help shape Figma’s long-term AI vision.

Requirements

• Must be based in the United States or work remotely within the US.
• 5+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years in applied machine learning or AI.
• Proficiency in Python and ML libraries such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, Scikit-learn, Spark MLlib, or XGBoost.
• Experience with end-to-end ML model development, scalable data pipelines, and evaluation systems.
• Strong collaboration and mentoring skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with search relevance, ranking, NLP, or retrieval-augmented generation systems.
• Knowledge of AI infrastructure, MLOps, observability, CI/CD, and automation for ML workflows.
• Experience with creative or design-focused ML applications.
• Familiarity with C++ or Go.
• Product mindset linking technical work to user outcomes and business impact.
