Staff Tech Lead, Perception, Fine-Tuning & Model Releases (AI)

Location: On-site locations in Mountain View or San Francisco, California; the role is described as hybrid.

Salary: $238,000–$302,000 USD annually, plus discretionary annual bonus, equity incentives, and company benefits.

Waymo develops autonomous driving technology and the Waymo Driver for fully autonomous ride-hail services and other vehicle platforms.

What you will do

• Lead multi-task fine-tuning and production release of multi-billion-parameter perception models.
• Design and implement ML methods to distill multiple expert models into a single multi-task model.
• Manage releases that replace deployed models used by large numbers of customers.
• Develop technical roadmaps, define team OKRs, and drive execution against delivery plans.
• Make staffing and technical decisions, manage escalations, and remain accountable for project delivery.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a similar discipline, or equivalent deep learning experience.
• 5+ years of experience in machine learning and/or computer vision.
• Experience with Python.
• Experience with ML frameworks such as PyTorch or JAX.
• Ability to work in the specified California locations and hybrid role structure.

Nice to have

• Master’s or PhD in Machine Learning, Robotics, Computer Science, or a similar discipline.
• Publications at top-tier conferences such as CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, ICLR, ICML, ICRA, RSS, NeurIPS, AAAI, IJCV, or PAMI.
• Experience with C++ and real-time system design.
