Senior Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid in Los Altos, California, United States

Salary: $180,000–$258,750 per year for California-based roles

What you will do

• Design, implement, and maintain C++ and Python software supporting machine-learning training, evaluation, and inference workflows.
• Build tooling for dataset handling, experiment tracking, metrics computation, and offline and online analysis.
• Prototype model export and edge inference, including packaging, runtime integration, and performance validation on embedded compute platforms.
• Develop diagnostics, monitoring, logging, and introspection tools for end-to-end machine-learning systems.
• Collaborate with researchers and infrastructure, simulation, and cross-functional engineering teams to turn experimental models into repeatable production pipelines.
• Support CI, automation, deployment, versioning, code review, documentation, and testing across vehicle, simulation, and development environments.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Robotics, or a related field.
• 10+ years of relevant software development experience, preferably in robotics, automotive, embedded systems, or distributed platforms.
• Strong proficiency in modern C++ and Python.
• Experience with Linux systems programming, real-time systems, production debugging, and complex software integration.
• Experience building ML platforms, data pipelines, or distributed systems supporting training or inference workflows.
• Familiarity with PyTorch, TensorFlow, TensorRT, ONNX, TorchScript, and inference runtimes.

Nice to have

• Experience in automated driving, robotics, or simulation-based system testing.
• Embedded development experience with NVIDIA Jetson Orin, Qualcomm Snapdragon Ride, or similar automotive-grade SoCs.
• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, distributed compute, large-scale data logging, or introspection frameworks.
• Understanding of automotive software practices, ISO 26262, and safety-critical development.
• Experience in fast-paced R&D environments bridging research and production, plus relevant open-source contributions or technical project write-ups.
