BBC Wales Head of Communications

Salary: £59,000–£65,000 per annum, depending on relevant skills, knowledge, and experience.

What you will do

• Lead strategic planning for the press office and communications activity.
• Manage a team delivering creative press and PR campaigns supporting hirify.global programmes and priorities.
• Advise on sensitive issues, manage organisational reputation, and act as the first point of contact for press enquiries.
• Handle high-profile media issues, crises, and sensitive communications projects, including out-of-hours support.
• Oversee communications budgets, reporting, evaluation, and the sharing of best practices.
• Support social media channels and the creation of digital assets to increase online engagement.

Requirements

• Proven senior-level experience leading strategic communications, media relations, or press office functions.
• Expertise in sensitive media handling, crisis communications, and reputation management.
• Experience developing proactive communications and digital strategies to promote and amplify content, campaigns, programmes, or services.
• Strong stakeholder engagement, influencing, advisory, and briefing skills with senior leaders and internal and external stakeholders.
• Experience setting objectives and performance measures, using data and insight to evaluate communications activity and demonstrate impact.
• Welsh language skills are not required; eligibility-to-work checks and other applicable employment screening checks will be conducted.
