Staff Security Engineer (Cybersecurity)

Location: Hybrid, with in-office collaboration expected 10+ days per month as determined by managers and teams.

What you will do

• Design, build, and tune threat detections across the Google Security Operations stack.
• Lead complex, high-severity incident investigations from triage through root cause analysis and remediation.
• Build and maintain Tines security automation workflows for detection, triage, and response.
• Own SIEM and security data pipeline health, including log source coverage, parsing, normalization, and alert quality.
• Influence cross-functional security initiatives, drive adoption of security tooling, and improve detection coverage and response playbooks.
• Use and verify AI coding tools such as Claude Code or OpenAI Codex for detection engineering and automation.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in security operations, detection engineering, or incident response, with end-to-end ownership of detection and response work.
• Advanced blue-team security knowledge and advanced proficiency in at least one scripting language.
• Experience automating security operations through REST APIs.
• Hands-on experience with SIEM platforms and security data pipelines, including log onboarding, parsing, and alert tuning.
• Experience extending and tuning EDR, identity, email security, and network security tooling.
• Ability to write technical specifications, assess risks and trade-offs, simplify complex systems, and coach other engineers.
