Senior Experimental Scientist (Plasma Physics)

Location: On-site in Everett, WA

Compensation: $210,000 – $250,000 per year

What you will do

• Lead the design, build, deployment, and calibration of plasma diagnostic systems for fusion generators.
• Serve as a key technical contributor for evaluating plasma parameters such as density, temperature, and current profiles.
• Partner cross-functionally with physics, operations, and engineering teams to align diagnostic capabilities with experimental needs.
• Develop best practices for pre-ionization plasma diagnostics to inform next-generation fusion device development.
• Analyze diagnostic data in real-time to extract actionable insights and inform operational tuning.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in physics, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related discipline with a focus on plasma science or high-vacuum instrumentation.
• 3+ years of relevant experience with plasma systems, high-vacuum systems, pulsed-power systems, or complex experimental hardware.
• Hands-on experience with diagnostics such as interferometry, spectroscopy, Langmuir probes, magnetic coils, or optical diagnostics.
• Demonstrated ability to independently lead complex technical workstreams and collaborate across teams.
• Must be able to work on-site in Everett, WA.
