Salary: $200,000–$250,000 per year plus equity

What you will do

  • Develop quantitative performance models defining human-level capability across locomotion, manipulation, sensing, and physical interaction.
  • Establish biological-performance benchmarks and engineering specifications that guide hardware and software development.
  • Design, instrument, and execute experiments investigating force generation, energy absorption, contact sensing, stability, and adaptation.
  • Identify gaps between robotic systems and biological reference systems and provide actionable guidance for closing them.
  • Translate biological insights into practical engineering constraints and opportunities for robotics, controls, materials, sensing, and mechanical systems.

Requirements

  • PhD in Biomechanics, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field, with 5+ years of experience.
  • Deep expertise in biomechanics and biological performance analysis beyond descriptive biomechanics, including modeling, quantitative analysis, or engineering applications.
  • Experience translating biological observations into engineering models, specifications, design requirements, or performance targets.
  • Strong experimental experience covering test design, instrumentation, data collection, and analysis of complex physical systems.
  • Ability to work across robotics, controls, materials, sensing, and mechanical systems.

Nice to have

  • Experience with quantitative models of biological motion, force generation, sensing, or adaptation.
  • Experience with robotics, electromechanical systems, or advanced hardware platforms.
  • Familiarity with CAD, simulation environments, and engineering analysis tools.
  • Strong proficiency in Python or similar tools for modeling, analysis, and scientific computing.
  • Experience studying biological materials, soft tissues, tactile systems, or locomotion dynamics.
