Staff/Lead Machine Learning Engineer (Autonomous Vehicles)

Salary: $235,030–$352,290 base pay per year, plus annual performance bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead machine learning initiatives across the autonomy stack from problem definition through on-road deployment.
• Design, train, and productionize models for behavior and planning, including foundation and world models, LLM/VLM reasoning, reinforcement and imitation learning, generative models, diffusion models, and transformer-based prediction.
• Build models that generalize to new U.S. and global geographies and adapt to different vehicle platforms.
• Own the full model lifecycle, including data, training, onboard inference, evaluation, and continuous on-road iteration.
• Collaborate with Perception, Simulation & Evaluation, ML Infra & Data, Autonomy, and Research teams.
• Mentor engineers and researchers while shaping technical strategy and roadmap.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience building and deploying machine learning systems and leading complex technical initiatives.
• Master’s or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Robotics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong machine learning foundations with depth in sequential decision-making, prediction, generative modeling, foundation/world models, or representation learning.
• Experience across the ML development cycle, from data collection and training to deployment, onboard inference, evaluation, and data iteration.
• Strong programming and problem-solving skills in Python and/or C++.
• Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives, work independently, and communicate clearly with stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience in autonomous vehicles or robotics and familiarity with autonomy or planning stacks.
• Experience mentoring engineers or leading a team, with interest in a management or technical leadership track.
• Experience with PyTorch, JAX, or TensorFlow.
• Research contributions to venues such as NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML, CVPR, RSS, or CoRL.
