Young Investigator, FlexOlmo (AI)

Location: Remote work is available from Berkeley, California; candidates must be located in or willing to relocate to Berkeley.

Compensation: $159,650 annually

hirify.global is a Seattle-based nonprofit AI research institute developing foundational AI research, open models, data, robotics, conservation, and other real-world applications.

What you will do

• Define and lead a high-impact research project for the FlexOlmo initiative.
• Research and develop large language models for flexible data use, including mixture-of-experts architectures, long-context language models, retrieval, training dynamics, scaling laws, and data curation.
• Train and release leading AI models and build open-source software for the research community.
• Author scientific papers for high-profile conferences or journals.
• Collaborate with Ai2 researchers and external institutions, including the University of California, Berkeley and the BAIR lab.
• Mentor junior researchers while receiving optional mentorship in academic activities such as grant writing and teaching.

Requirements

• PhD in Computer Science or a similar field, completed or expected within one year.
• Research experience in machine learning, natural language processing, language and vision, or related areas.
• Outstanding individual contributor skills, especially with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch.
• Strong publication record at AI-related venues, evaluated for rigor and impact.
• Extensive research experience with large language models, training dynamics, scaling laws, or data curation.
• Must be located in or willing to relocate to Berkeley, California, United States.

• Experience with mixture-of-experts, long-context language models, or retrieval.
