Research Engineer, Asta (AI)

Location: Seattle, Washington; expected to work from the Seattle offices

Base salary: $128,880–$193,320 per year, plus bonus plans.

What you will do

• Build infrastructure for next-generation LLM and agentic research.
• Create AI tools for scientific discovery in biology, cancer research, neuroscience, social science, and related domains.
• Design, build, and train machine learning and language models for agentic workflows.
• Bridge cutting-edge research with widely adopted products and apply software engineering best practices in a research environment.
• Collaborate with open-source communities and release software, models, APIs, datasets, and technical reports.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, data science, applied mathematics, statistics, machine learning, natural language processing, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• At least 2 years of experience building agentic infrastructure and at least 2 years building data and machine learning infrastructure for preprocessing, training, evaluation, inference, and deployment.
• Knowledge of modern deep learning, natural language processing, and reinforcement learning.
• Strong software engineering, performance, debugging, collaboration, and communication skills.
• Experience with Python, PyTorch, JAX or TensorFlow, and agentic frameworks such as MCP; familiarity with cloud computing and Docker.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States; employment authorization is verified through E-Verify.

Nice to have

• Advanced degree or equivalent engineering experience.
• Contributions to open-source machine learning or research libraries.
• Experience operating production systems at scale or working in HPC environments.
• Curiosity about AI research.
