Research Engineer, Asta (AI)

Location: On-site in Seattle, United States. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.; the employer participates in E-Verify.

Salary: $118,800–$178,200 base annually, plus bonus plans and a long-term incentive plan.

What you will do

• Build infrastructure for next-generation LLM and agentic research.
• Create AI tools that support scientific discovery across biology, cancer research, neuroscience, and social science.
• Design, build, and train machine learning and language models for agentic workflows.
• Bridge advanced research with widely adopted products and apply software engineering best practices in a research environment.
• Collaborate with and support open-source communities.
• Release software, models, APIs, datasets, and technical research contributions to the broader community.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, data science, applied mathematics, statistics, machine learning, NLP, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• At least 2 years of experience building agentic infrastructure that handles tools, skills, and related artifacts.
• At least 2 years of experience with data preprocessing and transformation, model training, evaluation, inference, and deployment infrastructure.
• Knowledge of modern deep learning, natural language processing, and reinforcement learning techniques.
• Strong software engineering, performance optimization, debugging, collaboration, and communication skills.
• Experience with Python, PyTorch, JAX or TensorFlow, agentic frameworks such as MCP, cloud compute such as GCP or AWS, and containerization with Docker.

Nice to have

• Advanced degree or equivalent engineering experience.
• Contributions to open-source machine learning or research libraries.
• Experience operating systems at production scale or in HPC environments.
• Curiosity about AI research.
