Research Scientist (AI)

What you will do

• Lead end-to-end development of vision-language model capabilities from task specification to deployment.
• Improve visual reasoning using reinforcement learning and preference optimization methods.
• Optimize token efficiency via encoder and connector design without quality loss.
• Collaborate closely with pretraining, post-training, and infrastructure teams.
• Own major work-streams such as video understanding, data quality, or architecture design.

Requirements

• Location: Must be able to work hybrid in San Francisco.
• Hands-on experience training or evaluating vision-language models with experimental rigor.
• Proficiency in Python and at least one deep learning framework.
• M.S. or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field, or equivalent industry experience.
• Experience with distributed training frameworks (DeepSpeed, FSDP, Megatron-LM).
• Expertise in dataset design, data quality, and multimodal post-training methods.

Nice to have

• Published research at top AI conferences (NeurIPS, ICML, CVPR, ECCV, ICLR, ACL).
• Prior open-source contributions on GitHub or Hugging Face.
• Experience with computer vision or visual representation learning.
