Lead, Data Governance (Fintech)

What you will do

• Build and maintain data governance policies, classification standards, ownership models, and exception processes.
• Own access governance for the lakehouse and analytics stack, including entitlement standards, access reviews, and least-privilege controls across Trino, Ranger, Cube, and Metabase.
• Partner with Data Engineering on Ranger policies, schema restrictions, service accounts, data quality, metadata, inventory, and lineage.
• Review data vendors and analytics, reverse ETL, AI query, notebook, and related use cases with Security, Privacy, and Legal.
• Support sensitive and cross-border data requests, PII handling, regional data flows, audits, and regulatory examinations.
• Track data risks and control gaps and define guardrails for AI and agentic use of corporate data.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in data governance, data security, GRC, privacy engineering, or a related field.
• At least 2 years working with modern data platforms, including lakehouses or warehouses, SQL engines, BI, and semantic layers.
• Experience applying DAMA-DMBOK, NIST, or similar data governance frameworks.
• Hands-on experience building or operating data classification, access control, or entitlement review programs.
• Knowledge of cloud data platforms, privacy and financial-services regulations including GDPR and CCPA, and cross-border data transfers.
• Experience supporting SOC 2, ISO 27001, or similar audits; strong communication skills and comfort working as an individual contributor with no direct reports.

Nice to have

• Fintech, brokerage, or regulated financial services experience.
• Experience with Trino, Apache Ranger, dbt, Cube, Metabase, Airflow, or Iceberg.
• Experience reviewing AI/ML and analytics tools, privacy programs, vendor or DPA reviews, ERM, or operational risk.
• Knowledge of Japan or EU data residency and cross-border data issues.
• CIPT, CIPM, CISM, CISSP, CDMP, CRISC, or similar certification.
