VP, Bioassays, Cell Models, and Genomic Screening (AI Biotech)

Location: South San Francisco, California, with at least three days per week onsite; occasional travel for conferences, collaborations, and regulatory interactions may be required.

Salary: $290,000–$326,000 annual starting salary for successful US-based applicants, plus eligibility for an annual performance bonus and equity incentive plan.

What you will do

• Set the strategic vision for cell models, image-based and genomic screens, and bioassay development across therapeutic areas.
• Lead the development, validation, and implementation of disease-relevant cell models, phenotypic pooled optical screens, arrayed screens, and supporting assays.
• Design and direct bioassays and phenotypic screens to investigate target and pathway biology using human disease-relevant cellular models.
• Provide internal and external expertise on biochemical and bioassay strategy, data interpretation, high-throughput drug discovery, CRO monitoring, and outsourced activities.
• Lead and mentor a team of more than 20 scientists and collaborate with teams in therapeutic areas, functional genomics, drug discovery, automation, and machine learning.

Requirements

• Graduate degree in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 12–15+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
• Experience leading assay development and screening teams, developing high-throughput workflows, applying automation, and driving operational excellence.
• Extensive experience with cellular, biochemical, and imaging-based assays, including disease-relevant cell-based models.
• Experience with genetic, small-molecule, large-molecule, and oligonucleotide cellular assays.
• Strong scientific leadership, communication, analytical, collaboration, mentoring, and team-building skills; familiarity with computational biology or machine learning is required.

Nice to have

• Experience in preclinical bioassays and analytical development.
• Experience with iPSC-based differentiated cell models.
• Experience applying Design of Experiments to cell model and screening parameter development.
