Senior Java Backend Developer (Aviation Data Systems)

Location: Lisbon, Portugal; hybrid work model with up to 3 days remote. Candidates must have an existing legal right to work in Europe.

What you will do

• Architect and develop scalable Java backend systems for real-time aviation data processing.
• Build and scale data pipelines using MySQL, MongoDB, Redis, and Kafka.
• Solve complex algorithmic, system-performance, and database-optimization challenges.
• Apply software architecture, code-quality, and cybersecurity best practices.
• Deploy and manage applications in Linux environments.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate distributed services.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of backend software development experience.
• Strong expertise in Java and its ecosystem.
• Hands-on experience with Linux, SQL/NoSQL databases, and message brokers.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• Excellent problem-solving skills focused on algorithms and system performance.
• Fluent or communicative English is required for technical communication with U.S. clients, and an existing legal right to work in Europe is mandatory.

Nice to have

• Portuguese language skills.

• Self-driven approach, adaptability, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
