What you will do
- Build, rework, repair, and test prototype systems, evaluation builds, cables, and wiring harnesses.
- Use oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analysers, and bench power supplies to verify designs and diagnose faults.
- Support embedded-system bring-up, integration, and testing with software and design engineers.
- Maintain technical documentation, test records, lab equipment, and calibration activities.
- Provide feedback on testability, manufacturability, component selection, tooling, and ESD practices.
- Coach junior technicians and apprentices in build and test work.
Requirements
- Strong hands-on electronics skills, including through-hole and SMD soldering, prototyping, and cable or loom fabrication.
- Experience with test equipment, structured debugging, fault finding, and embedded systems.
- Good understanding of analogue and digital electronics fundamentals.
- Substantial R&D or product-development electronics experience with the ability to work independently on complex builds.
- Relevant electronics or electrical engineering qualification, such as HNC, HND, or NVQ Level 3, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Clear communication skills and ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Nice to have
- Experience with scientific instrumentation or laboratory automation.
- Knowledge of IEC 61010 and other product safety standards.
- Experience with SolidWorks, Altium, schematic capture, or PCB layout tools.
- System-level testing and debugging of complete instruments.
- Experience with mains-voltage wiring and electrical safety.
