Data Architect (AWS)

Location: Hybrid - Must be based in Atlanta, GA (office attendance required Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday)

What you will do

• Define a managed AWS reference architecture and layered data models from raw to curated analytical layers.
• Establish governance across every layer, including data classification, PII handling, access control, and residency.
• Create reusable engineering patterns for data capture, storage, transformation, and serving.
• Design loose coupling from operational systems using change-data-capture (CDC) or scheduled extracts.
• Set architectural guardrails to balance governed pattern-based paths with low-code workflows.
• Directly build data products to support the team during delivery phases.

Requirements

• Senior data architecture experience with production AWS systems, including S3-based lake or lakehouse designs.
• Deep fluency with medallion or layered data architectures and their governance controls.
• Experience designing contextual or semantic data layers to optimize GenAI token consumption.
• Hands-on knowledge of managed AWS services such as Glue, Athena, Lake Formation, and DMS.
• Proven experience in data classification and PII handling, ideally within regulated or public sector contexts.
• Ability to define clean, documented blueprints without over-engineering.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with dbt, Redshift, and low-code orchestration tools like n8n.
• Experience with Canadian data residency requirements and multi-region AWS deployments.
• Track record of implementing governance from the project's inception.
