Job description
Text:
TL;DR
Electrical Systems Analysis (CAE) Engineer – 12V/48V (Automotive): Building and analyzing one-dimensional models of 12V/48V electrical components, subsystems, and full vehicle architectures with an accent on battery electro-thermal modeling, co-simulation, and virtual controls development. Focus on charge balance, fail-operational behavior, bus integrity, short-circuit analysis, component sizing, and closing modeling gaps through comparison with test data.
Location: Hybrid in Milford or Warren, Michigan; reporting to the assigned location at least three times per week. Travel required up to 25%. The role is subject to U.S. export-control restrictions.
Company
develops automotive products and technologies focused on safety, emissions reduction, and mobility.
What you will do
- Plan, develop, and execute one-dimensional models of 12V/48V electrical components, subsystems, and complete vehicle or product architectures using Synopsys Saber and related tools.
- Build physics-based, co-simulation, and Software-in-the-Loop models with MATLAB, Simulink, Simscape, and FMUs.
- Develop battery, electrical distribution, aggregator, controller, and electro-thermal models for virtual control strategies and calibration.
- Perform charge balance, fail-operational, bus integrity, short-circuit, component sizing, optimization, and statistical analyses.
- Work with suppliers and cross-functional CAE, architecture, validation, calibration, and design-release teams to define, integrate, and validate high-fidelity models.
- Compare simulations with test data, investigate discrepancies, lead peer reviews, present results, and close analysis capability gaps.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of engineering experience in the design, analysis, or testing of 12V/48V electrical systems or components.
- Proficiency with Synopsys Saber, MAST, MATLAB, Simulink, and Simscape.
- Experience developing SiL and FMU-based co-simulation models, including analytical models for batteries, generators, thermal systems, lighting systems, and electronic controllers.
- Strong knowledge of circuit analysis, electronics, electromagnetics, electric drives, control systems, digital signal processing, debugging, and technical communication.
- Must be a U.S. Person or eligible to obtain required export-control authorization; GM does not provide immigration sponsorship, including H-1B, OPT, STEM OPT, CPT, TN, or J-1 support.
Nice to have
- Master’s degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Physics.
- Experience with CAE/CAD tools, lithium-ion or lead-acid battery modeling, EMI/ESD assessment, or CST.
- Experience developing technical GUIs and schematic-based applications.
- Experience applying AI/ML to electrical-system modeling, analysis, or optimization.
Culture & Benefits
- Employee-focused total rewards and well-being support from the first day.
- Inclusive workplace focused on belonging and equitable employment practices.
- Potential eligibility for relocation benefits.
- Regular travel of less than 25% may be required.
Hiring process
- Role-related assessments and pre-employment screening may be required.
