Database Engineer (C++)

Location: Hybrid in Amsterdam or Remote within Europe

hirify.global is building a cloud-hosted version of DuckDB to make data warehousing frictionless and high-performance for developers and data practitioners.

What you will do

• Develop the dual execution stack to allow DuckDB to process queries seamlessly both locally and in the cloud.
• Build a cloud platform for dynamic resource assignment to optimize efficiency across varying workload sizes.
• Lead cross-functional initiatives with frontend, platform, and infrastructure teams to ensure a coherent user experience.
• Optimize embedded database performance, distributed execution, and DuckDB internals.
• Mentor teammates and elevate engineering practices across the organization.
• Collaborate with DuckDB Labs to align on APIs and shape the future direction of the query engine.

Requirements

• Experience building and shipping complex backend systems.
• Proficiency in systems languages, specifically C++ or Rust (Java is also considered).
• Strong foundation in query engines, execution plans, indexing, and performance optimization techniques.
• Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure, networking, and low-latency distributed systems.
• Ability to scope and lead projects with multiple collaborators and cross-functional dependencies.
• Must be based in Amsterdam or be located remotely within Europe.
