Director of Safety (AI Infrastructure)

TL;DR

Director of Safety (AI Infrastructure): Designing and implementing a comprehensive health, safety, and environmental (HSE) function for AI data centers with an accent on regulatory compliance and multi-site operational safety. Focus on building safety systems from the ground up, managing OSHA/EPA compliance, and scaling safety culture across manufacturing and construction sites.

Location: Must be based in San Francisco, Long Beach, or Houston (onsite culture with bi-weekly WFH Fridays). Exceptions may be made for exceptional talent living outside these hubs.

What you will do

• Design and implement the HSE management system across manufacturing facilities, construction sites, and data center deployments.
• Act as the primary subject matter authority on OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and other federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
• Develop incident prevention programs, safety training curricula, and emergency response protocols.
• Lead all incident investigations, performing root cause analysis and driving systemic corrective actions.
• Partner with project managers and operations leads to embed safety requirements into project planning and execution.
• Build and lead a scaling HSE team, defining structure and hiring new talent.

Requirements

• 8+ years of progressive HSE experience in industrial, construction, manufacturing, or electrical infrastructure environments.
• Proven success building or scaling an HSE program within a fast-moving, multi-site operation.
• Deep working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1910 and 1926 and EPA regulations.
• Experience managing HSE across fixed facilities, field construction, and customer-site field service operations.
• Ability and willingness to travel to project sites and customer facilities (estimated 20%).
• Must be based in or able to work from San Francisco, Long Beach, or Houston.

Nice to have

• Certified Safety Professional (CSP), CHMM, CIH, or OHST credentials.
• Experience with data center construction or utility-scale renewable energy projects.
• Familiarity with ISO 45001 or ISO 14001 standards.
• Background in startups or high-growth companies.
• Experience managing environmental permitting across multiple jurisdictions.
