Research Software Engineer (Aerospace)

What you will do

• Evaluate and optimize software development practices for FSL users to ensure project success.
• Participate in planning and major development of software for flight software, guidance, navigation, and analysis.
• Collaborate with partners and external contractors to meet software requirements and resolve bugs.
• Act as a mentor for software engineering best practices within High Performance Computing (HPC) environments.
• Help users maximize the utility of cluster tools and workflows in support of NASA human spaceflight missions.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• 5–10 years of related software engineering experience.
• Proficiency in multiple programming languages (compiled and interpreted) and build systems like GNU Make.
• Demonstrated experience with Git, containers, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Daily experience working in Linux OS via command line interface (CLI).
• U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Residency is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with Monte Carlo workflows and MPI-based workflows optimized for HPC.
• Knowledge of Trick-based simulation workflows and related toolsets.
• Experience with Podman, GitLab, and Jenkins in HPC environments.
• Knowledge of TDD, Agile, and generative AI coding assistants.
• Active participation in the open-source software community.
