What you will do

• Support data deposition and import for the BioImage Archive and EMPIAR, providing expert guidance to depositors.
• Develop automated data pipelines for complex bioimaging submissions.
• Collaborate with the bioimaging community to define and implement metadata standards (e.g., OME-Zarr) and schema languages.
• Curate and standardize metadata across diverse scientific domains to meet community needs.
• Work with software developers to guide development priorities and test new database features.
• Create comprehensive documentation and training materials for resource users.

Requirements

• First degree in Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science or related discipline; MSc required, PhD preferred.
• Strong understanding of data handling and visualization for at least one imaging modality (e.g., light or electron microscopy).
• Proficiency in developing scripts for data transformation using Python, Julia or similar languages.
• Experience with JSON and schema languages such as LinkML.
• Demonstrated knowledge of research imaging techniques and data standards.
• Must be based in or able to relocate to the UK.

Nice to have

• Post-doctoral experience in a life sciences research lab or bioimaging facility.
• Experience with spatial transcriptomics or spatial proteomics.
• Familiarity with next-generation file formats, specifically OME-Zarr.
• Experience with semantic technologies, ontologies, and JSON schema-based validation.
• Experience developing and running training courses.
