TL;DR
Senior Propulsion & Battery HIL Engineer (Automotive): Developing and maintaining hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation environments for electric vehicle propulsion and battery systems with an accent on model design, verification, and validation of embedded controllers. Focus on designing complex HIL benches, integrating simulation models using Simulink/Simscape, and applying Agile and DFSS methodologies to accelerate product development.
Location: Must be based in or able to relocate to Milford or Warren, Michigan (Hybrid: 3-4 days per week in office)

What you will do
- Create and maintain simulation models for plant, sensors, actuators, and controllers to enhance HIL/SIL test environments.
- Design, integrate, and support HIL benches, including harness design, power distribution, and ECU integration.
- Translate customer needs into testable system requirements and solutions in collaboration with software and validation teams.
- Lead systems engineering activities, including functional decomposition, design analysis, and software anomaly resolution.
- Coordinate test-environment strategy and model/hardware rollout to support feature development.
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for platform components and champion best practices within the software community.
Requirements
- Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, Electrical, Software, or Computer Engineering.
- 4+ years of experience in design of models with real-time simulation.
- 4+ years of experience in HIL design, troubleshooting, and integration.
- 2+ years of experience in automotive engineering.
- 1+ year of experience applying DFSS tools and methodologies.
- Must be able to work on-site in Michigan 3-4 days per week.
Nice to have
- Experience developing real-time control algorithms in Python, C, or C++.
- Familiarity with embedded software build processes (Eclipse, gcc, gdb).
- Proficiency with ETAS INCA, Lauterbach, and CAN tools (CANalyzer, Vehicle Spy).
- Background as a Controls, Software, or Calibration Engineer.
