Postdoc in Theoretical Quantum Physics (Quantum Sensing)

Location: Delft, Netherlands. Relocation to the Netherlands may be required.

Salary: €3,706–€5,760 per month in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.

What you will do

• Develop and lead analytical and numerical research on the quantum dynamics of mechanical systems and their interactions with complex environments.
• Formulate approaches to quantum control, noise mitigation, and quantum sensing.
• Establish fundamental limits for preparing, manipulating, and certifying quantum states in realistic experiments.
• Investigate what laboratory-scale quantum experiments can reveal about decoherence, the quantum-to-classical transition, and possible links between quantum mechanics and gravity.
• Develop original research directions and translate broad scientific goals into concrete projects within a new theory group.
• Collaborate with students and researchers in Delft and across an international scientific network while contributing to the development of the research environment.

Requirements

• PhD in Physics or a closely related discipline by the start of the appointment.
• Expertise in quantum optics, quantum technologies, quantum information, quantum sensing, or a related field.
• Experience developing analytical and numerical models of quantum systems.
• Excellent written and spoken English required.
• Excellent communication skills and an interest in mentoring students.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of quantum metrology, continuous-variable quantum systems, or Gaussian state formalism.
• Knowledge of quantum information theory, entanglement theory, or spin-mechanical systems.
• Experience with open quantum systems, continuous quantum measurement and feedback, or stochastic methods for quantum dynamics.
• Knowledge of tests of fundamental physics, collapse models, deformed commutation relations, or quantum-gravity interfaces.
