Postdoc in Safety Assessment and Strengthening Technology of Existing Concrete Bridges

Location: Delft, Netherlands; relocation to the Netherlands is expected and relocation support is available.

Salary: €3,706–€5,760 per month, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.

What you will do

• Develop and refine assessment guidelines for existing Dutch concrete bridges based on the next-generation Eurocode.
• Integrate updates into the RBK guidelines developed by Rijkswaterstaat.
• Review structural strengthening techniques and their underlying safety philosophies.
• Interview asset owners, contractors, researchers, and technology developers to assess practical and commercial needs.
• Organize international workshops with experts in bridge strengthening technology.
• Identify future research challenges and strategic directions for strengthening existing bridges.

Requirements

• PhD in Concrete Structures, Civil Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
• Strong background and interest in assessing existing concrete structures, strengthening existing concrete structures, or designing and modelling concrete structures.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders and translate technical insights into actionable research plans.
• Proof of English language proficiency is required.
